Remnants of Communication

Featuring the Philatelic Artwork of Audrey Yankielun

The Arts Council of Livingston is pleased to announce Remnants of Communication, a new exhibition showcasing the inventive and meticulously crafted artwork of Audrey Yankielun, a self‑taught “artistic philatelist” who transforms postage stamps into quilts, dresses, sculptures, puzzles, and toys.

Yankielun’s work reimagines the world of philately through a contemporary artistic lens. Her creations range from a full‑sized women’s dress stitched with 1,200 U.S. postage stamps to stamp‑covered quilts, puzzles, and sculptural forms. By merging quilting traditions with the visual language of postage stamps, she preserves the beauty and history embedded in these small artifacts of communication.

For Yankielun, the postage stamp represents “the last remnant of communication between hopeful sender and eventual receiver.” Her pieces explore themes of history, identity, and symbolism, using both genuine stamps and stamps printed on fabric to construct intricate, tactile works that honor the stories carried through the mail.

Remnants of Communication will be on view at Livingston Town Hall, 357 S. Livingston Avenue, beginning January 9. The exhibition runs through March 3 and is open to the public during regular Town Hall hours.

The Arts Council of Livingston invites the community to experience this unique and thought‑provoking collection and to celebrate the creativity of an artist who transforms everyday materials into extraordinary works of art.
